Why Prayer is Important?

Why Prayer is important - by Lizzie Ducking

For Christians, prayer is the connection that we have with God. It is one of our core values of Christianity.
The only way to communicate with the Father is through prayer. What is prayer? It is basically a conversation between us and God. Through prayer we ask the Lord for help with our needs and desires He'll answer it if it's according to His will. How do we know if we are praying according to His will? Philippians 4:8 makes it clear to us and it says, finally brethren, whatever thing are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever thing are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy, meditate on these things so once we have considered our pray request and it does line up with Philippians 4:8 then we will know that God will grant our petition.
First John 5:14-15 also back up our confidence that God will answer our prayer, it says now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us and if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petition that we have asked of Him.
What will prayer do for us? It will bring us into the presence of God, it'll get His attention, it'll bond a relationship between us and the Lord, it'll reveal to us the truth, it'll make clear all our concerns so that we are not perplexed, it'll give us strength and courage, it'll remove fear, it'll give us boldness, it'll establish us in the Lord, we will know who we are in Christ Jesus and what belongs to us and it'll give us instructions.
Prayer is a very important part of a Christians life and it should be done daily not just in asking the Lord for something but in reverence to Him for who He is. We praise him in prayer making mention of His marvelous works; we honor Him and thank Him in prayer.
The Disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray and this is what He said, in Matthew 6:9-13 in this manner, therefore, pray: our Father in Heaven, hollowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors and do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever Amen. Now when Jesus said those words He covered the whole of man. He did not leave anything out and if we would just pray that prayer in His name we would have covered everything as well but we still can name the things we want because He said ask.
When we pray it is important to be exact and stable not double minded. James 1:8 says a double minded man is unstable in all His ways and we don't want to be like that because we will not receive anything from God. He wants us to ask for exactly what we want and not change it. If we are not sure about what we want then we should ask Him to tell us what we want or need instead of going back and forth in our prayers, He'll make it clear to us what we want.
Prayer is a privilege that the Lord has given us. It is very important and it should not be taken lightly.
