God Judge Them That Hurt Me And Make Me Cry And Suffer - Ngozi Nwoke
Shouldn't I pray against my enemies? Am I to do nothing to those who hurt me and won't God judge them? These and many more are bugging questions in the hearts of Christian believers. They wonder how to pray about the people who are really hurting them, who make them to shed tears.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust - Matthew 5:44-45 (NKJV)
For we know Him Who said, Vengeance is Mine [retribution and the meting out of full justice rest with Me]; I will repay [I will exact the compensation], says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge and determine and solve and settle the cause and the cases of His people - Hebrews 10:30 (AMP)
Truly, the flesh (nature of man) desires that fire will come down from heaven, like in the days of Elijah, and consume all our enemies. But Jesus says love them, bless them, do good to them and even pray for them, so that you may be sons of your father in heaven! Hard thing to do you may say.
But you want justice, after all God says we should persist in pray till we get justice (Luke 18:1-8). So, how else will you pray if not that they be destroyed?
God says that vengeance is His and that He will certainly judge our cases. Also, He said that it is a righteous thing to repay those who trouble you with trouble. So, God is not going to let your enemies have a great time hurting you. But you have to hand the case over to Him and let Him do it His way and not your own way.
In a nutshell, when you pray say, "God judge my enemies, those who hurt me" and have faith that He would do so, Luke 18:8. How God will judge them should not bother you. The Lord, who knows the end from the beginning and knows us all, knows the best way to judge our enemies. He may destroy them immediately or later, or give them room to repent and serve Him, and cause them to come and apologize to you.
Surely, the wicked will reap what they have sown, but let God decide how they do so. Yours is to walk in love towards them. Jesus Christ will give you the grace to do, because you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, Philippians 4:13.
The scriptures give us examples of how God can judge our enemies. I will cite two examples.
The first one was God's judgment on King Herod, Acts 12:1-24.
King Herod was persecuting the Christian believers. He killed James and went ahead to imprison Peter in preparation to kill him after Passover. Constant prayer was offered to God by the church and God miraculously delivered Peter. But King Herod met his judgment when he took God's glory for himself. God showed him no mercy and he was eaten up by worms and died.
The second example was how God judged Saul later called Paul, Acts 8:1-3, Acts 9:1-25, 2 Corinthians 11:22-33
Saul was breathing threats and murder against Christian believers but when he encountered Jesus Christ, he became a believer and served God. The disciples must have prayed to God about Saul's persecution. But God didn't destroy him; instead he made him a chosen vessel to spread the gospel among the Gentiles. In addition, God ensured he labored and suffered a lot more for His name sake, Acts 9:15, 1 Corinthians 15:9-10.
In conclusion, your prayer if at all for your enemies should be, "God judge my enemies, those who hurt me". Let God be the judge and allow Him to carry out the vengeance the way He knows best.
