I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live – Deut 30:19 (KJV). Your choices today decide your tomorrow. You make tomorrow today. For every choice you make today, tomorrow will tell the consequences of those choices.
God has a great future for every person He created, that includes you. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." (NLT) No one is supposed to be exempted from God's glorious plan. But through our choices we knock off ourselves from His plan for mankind.
Your choices dictate the steps you take: steps to a glorious or destructive future. You make tomorrow today. Many people for few moments of pleasure, gratification, fame, power, recognition, etc, have destroyed their tomorrow today. For every act, consider the consequences of choices.
Esau sold out his birthright just to satisfy his hunger momentarily, Gen 25:29-34. He could have waited few more minutes to prepare his own meal. Besides, missing one meal wouldn't have killed him as he said. Consequently, when he sought his birthright back, even with tears, he couldn't get it back. Gen 27:34-38. It was too late!
Also Samson for fleshly pleasure of unlawful sex, (fornication) had his eyes plucked out, his glorious destiny crushed to a level of a prison-house grinder. He became a laughing-stock and eventually, his life was cut short because of few minutes of pleasure, Judges 16.
It is better to deny yourself some things even if people mock you and preserve your tomorrow today. Your destiny is dependent on nobody but YOU and God. Therefore, you should not allow people to dissuade you from making right choices. Choose to endure the mockery today and enjoy the honour and blessings tomorrow.
Joseph had a glorious destiny mapped out for him by God. Though, he had many opportunities to make the wrong choices, he chose not to until he secured his throne as the number 2 powerful man in Egypt. For instance, if he had agreed to sleep with his master's wife, he would never have seen his dream come through.
Now, how do you ensure your choices are right for a better tomorrow today?
· Fear God – God will teach you how to make right choices when you fear him – Psalm 25:12. To fear God is to reverence, respect, and obey Him. God is ever ready to lead His children in the way that they should go.
· Study and meditate on God's word – The word of God enables you to discern good from evil – Isaiah 7:15. The more of God's word in you, the more strength and grace you have to make right choices.
· Think before you talk or act – Do not be in a haste to do anything no matter the pressure. Always consider the consequences of choices. Be slow to speak but quick to hear- James 1:19.
Your tomorrow really is great despite what it may look like today. But YOUR choices today make tomorrow. Make your great tomorrow today.
